Birinder Tember - Sifu

Birinder Tember has been involved in health and training from an early age. He studied Karate under the Amateur Shotokan Karate Association as a child and through his teenage years excelled in Athletics and Gymnastics. At 14, he developed a keen interest in weight training and nutrition and by age 21 was well versed in physical training. He returned to Karate under the instruction of the late 9th dan Karate Master 'Enoeda', of the Japan Karate Association. His training in Karate led him to train at the Karate world headquarters in Ebisu, Tokyo where he trained with several Masters such as Tabata, Osaka, Tanaka and Tsuyama (Technical Head at the time of the famous Takushoku University) and later in the USA with Master Nishiyama.

During the late eighties, Birinder became interested in Chinese Martial Arts and under the tuition of Master Lau commenced practice in the art of Wing-Chun (Bruce Lee's original style of Kung-Fu). A short but effective syllabus, Birinder researched this further and trained rigorously with various teachers and students from Hong-Kong, UK and the USA, including senior students of the world renowned Master Augustine Fong.

In early 1992, Birinder's training took a dramatic change when he met Master Wen LinJun (the grandson and student of the late Shaolin grandmaster Peng Qing). Dr.Wen, a practitioner of Chinese Herbal Medicine and Wushu/Qigong Master taught Shaolin Kung-Fu and the Internal Arts - Yang & Chen style Tai-chi; Sha style Bagua Zhang and Xing Yi and a broad range of Qigong. Birinder underwent 'one to one' training at Master Wen's North London home from as early as 5am as well as small group sessions during the evenings & weekends for many years.

Inspired by Dr.Wen, Birinder commenced academic studies in fitness training, nutrition and general alternative therapies & medicines to gain recognition for skills, some of which he had developed through personal interest during his teenage years and is now professionally certified and insured to practice.

Having studied acupuncture at the College of Intergrated Chinese Medicine in Berkshire and Herbal medicine with Beijing University Professor Shulan Tang in Manchester, plus his background in Qigong and Martial Arts, Birinder is able to offer a truly holistic approach to Medicine, Meditation and Martial Arts. Today, Birinder is the Director of The Academy of Eastern Arts and has been awarded and registered as a 5th Duan Wei grade (5th Dan) instructor by the Chinese Wushu Association, China. He is also a member of the teaching faculty at the London College of Tradititonal Acupuncture where he co-ordinates and lectures on research and supervises on the Masters degree course as well as the undergraduate programmes.

The Wushu circle is a recognised member of the British Council for Chinese Martial arts and duly recognised by the Sports Council. The Academy of Eastern Arts is affiliated to the Wushu Circle.

In addition to his background in physical training and alternative medicine, Birinder followed a successful career in Business management for many years working for large global corporate organisations.
