Our Approach

At your first appointment, expect to spend up to 90 minutes where we will take a full oriental diagnosis and give you a treatment accordingly.

We will also recommend the number of sessions that we feel you will require and over what period of time. This will be reviewed at each session.

As a guide, we recommend approximately 4-6 sessions for acute conditions and 10 sessions for chronic conditions to ascertain the effectiveness of the treatments. This is merely a guide and you can choose to have more or less according to how you feel you are responding to treatment.

For subsequent sessions allow 45-60 minutes.

What We Offer

Evidence from ancient texts indicate that acupuncture has been in use for over two thousand years and is ever growing in popularity with over 3 million practitioners worldwide.

It is said that its discovery came about following observation of effects on the functioning of specific organs when certain areas of the body were stimulated. Over the centuries, the understanding of the meridian pathways (which are said to carry chi through our body) developed and techniques have become increasingly refined.

Today, acupuncture is recognized by most as a very effective complementary therapy.

Whilst it’s areas of popularity linking it with specific conditions like Nausea, Vomiting, Dental pain relief etc are widely publicized, it’s broader benefits continue to be an ongoing subject of discussion and research to prove its efficacy.

All acupuncturists offering Classical Acupuncture at our clinics have been extensively trained over many years in Chinese Medicine and have also covered a significant level of Conventional Medical Sciences. Additionally, all our practitioners are members of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) and/or the Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine, (ATCM), both recognized and approved bodies in the UK.

The origins of Chinese herbal medicine date back over 5000 years to the time of the legendary emperor Sheng Nong. Herbs are prescribed following individual diagnosis and prescribed as formulas rather than an individual herb.

The formulas which are groups of herbs work synergistically to bring about balance to the individuals state of ill health.

Herbal medicine can be used as an alternative to acupuncture or in conjunction with it to maximize the effects of treatment and harmonizing the flow of chi.

Herbal medicine is highly regulated to ensure environmental and ethical issues are adhered to. We use powdered herbs that are easy for the patient to prepare and take. All our practitioners are fully qualified and insured to practice.

Testimonials

“Due to painful periods, my GP put me on the birth control pill when I was 16. After 2 years, I decided to come off them. My periods completely stopped and 5 years later after having seen several gynaecologists, I had lost all hope and was fearful of never being able to conceive. My friend recommended me to Birinder for acupuncture, but I was very sceptical. When I saw how he successfully helped her with infertility issues, I decided to give it a go, but was still sceptical. I went to see Birinder on a Thursday evening after work and after a thorough consultation, he treated me with 3 needles and left them in for about 20 minutes. I could not believe it when I had a period (my first in 5 years) just 48 hours after the acupuncture.”

“I had several sessions of Physiotherapy for a frozen shoulder which helped a little, but were short lived. I had heard that acupuncture may help and decided to try it. A work colleague recommended Birinder. He treated me with acupuncture for 4 sessions and made me a herbal poultice to use on a daily basis during the first week. He also showed me a Tai Chi exercise which he felt would benefit me. After one month, I was amazed at how much my shoulder mobility had improved and the pain decreased.”

“Birinder helped me greatly to overcome a back injury after a major car accident. He combined acupuncture with acupressure massage and was very accommodating in explaining the theory of acupuncture in a very simple and concise manner. I felt completely at ease and I’m sure his treatments were a major contributory factor to both my physical and emotional recovery.”

“I have been a firm believer in acupuncture and Chinese Medicine for over 15 years and have been treated by several practitioners over the years. I recently moved to Kingston and found Birinder via the British Acupuncture Councils website. He is very calm and has a unique unhurried and reassuring approach to treatment. A real breath of fresh air.”

“Since Birinder initially helped me overcome a very stressful period in my life 2 years ago, I have continued to see him about once a month for general well being and to give me a boost. I have found him to be very flexible with his timetable for appointments and he has not increased his prices in all the time that I have been seeing him.”

“Birinder is an amazing teacher with incredible energy and knowledge. I find it incredible how one person can retain such a broad level of skills with the depth of knowledge to match. I found him to be very humble and patient with his teachings and feel truly honoured to be taught by him.”
